Question

After Effects and Media Encoder being super slow

Hello!

So I use After Effects and Media Encoder 2022, and recently my apps have been incredibely slow. to render a 5-15 second edit it takes atleast 3 hours, minimum. I normally use a 1080x1440 format, with usually 60 fps. For the past few months its been really slow, and I dont think its because of my laptop. I have a Intel 11th Gen i5, 8GB ram, 256 GB SSD (with 30 gb remaining consistently) and a GTX 1650. With all of this, editing and rendering with NO apps in the background running, it still takes INCREDIBELY long. whilst a friend of mine can render an edit the same size and time with a 12 second render time. Is there ANYTHING i can do to speed up this process? Not only that, but making the edit in AE takes a long time to render so i can even watch it, on quarter by the way.

Please help. I dont know why its incredibely laggy. Would upgrading to 32GB of ram help? Any tips or suggestions?

    Hi mqxify,

    Sorry for your issue.

Do you mind sharing some details on what are you rendering? Render time is greatly affected by the project assets, effects, and plug-ins used in it. Also, your computer is not meeting the minimum system requirements which will affect the render time.

    Let us know.

    Thanks,

    Nishu

that'll do it, especially if it's an older laptop. AE is very temperamental, and plugins are shoddy when it comes to deep integration. some are faster, others slower than AE. most slower.
note that what you're experiencing is likely a normal amount of time for a render. AE takes its time. if you're sure it's a good edit, start a render and grab a coffee, take a nap, etc. that's how most of us who don't have 5 computers do it.

This is a known update to 2023 to render MP4s directly from AE or render an intermediate clip in ProRes or such and encode it in AME later.

I also render with CUDA (Hardwere acceleration) And with no background processes.
