After effects can not maintain layer number/ name

Hello,

I have created my Illustration in AI. I specifically numbered/named them in a sequence so that I can remember the chronology and maintain them in AE. But when I create the shape from those layers all lose their identity and take the same name. Is there any way AE can maintain the name the author gave? if it's not inbuilt then is there any plugin that can do this for me?
