Question

After Effects constantly with the "Failed to write XMP data"

Hey support!

I previously had a thread where  AE was having trouble rendering Apple Pro Res files to an external SoftRAID drive, I'd constantly get the Failed to Write XMP Data. But if I wrote to an external G-Tech drive that was just formatted with MacOS as a single drive, it was fine.

But now it's doing the same thing with those drives as well.

I had the same error when I tried to use Premiere Pro or Media Encoder exporting Apple Pro Res movies as well UNTIL I turned off "write XMP data" in the preferences of Media Encoder.

I don't see that option in AE. But sometimes AE works the first time, then I re-open it and let it render my queue of files and none of them work. All have XMP errors.

Any help?

Mike,

Check permissions on any folder After Effects might be using.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hey Kevin,

I've done that already actually. Did every folder it suggested in that link.

So I had a post before about writing to a SoftRAID drive and how I'd get the XMP errors....so I stopped that. But now I'm READING the RawFiles from a SoftRAID drive and writing to a G-Tech G-Raid drive that's just formatted as a single drive via MacOS.

Is there any issue there? I also am using a third external drive as my Cache area which i set in the AE preferences.

Mike
