Question

After Effects crashes/freezes with wrist watch/ beach ball when opening Preferences

M4 Macbook Pro (64GB RAM), Sequoia 15.6, After Effects version 25.3.2 Build 2. I disabled plugins, reset preferences, and uninstalled/reinstalled the app.

I can open and edit projects without apparent issues.

I get a beach ball if I open the preferences. It happens right when I open the app (even in safe mode) and also happens if I open and work on a project. I have to force quit. I have no idea what else I can do to fix this.

By the way - I was not able to post this question without choosing at least one "topic" to apply to it. I was given a choice of 4 topics, none of which apply to this issue, so I chose "Libraries". WTF...

Huh...

Nothing.

That's sad.

Sorry for the delayed response and your issue with After Effects.

Can you let us know the names of the plug-ins you've installed? What happens after the freeze? Does it stay that way or crash? If it crashes, do you mind sharing the crash report here? In case it doesn't crash, please follow the steps below to generate a log file:

1. Start AE
2. Help Menu > Enable Logging
3. Restart AE
4. Replicate the issue.
5. Help Menu > Reveal Logging Files...
6. Find the "After Effects Log.txt" file and copy/paste the content back to this forum thread.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,
Nishu

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
