After Effects Crashing when the OS File window opens

Sorry for your issue. I'd be happy to take care of this for you.

Could you try running After Effects as Administrator? If that doesn't help then create a new user account with admin rights and check if After Effects is working fine in it.

Thanks for the reply.
AE is crashing whenever a operating system file menu gets opened.
ie - importing files, replacing footage, saving files, etc.
it is fine while I am actually working on a comp. I an also drag footage
into the Project panel from outside the app ... I just can't do anything
that opens the "file" dialog box.

Is AE crashing when you open it, when you add media, when you work on a comp, or when you open a saved project?

Have you tried running the Adobe Cleaner tool? What else has changed on your system including antivirus updates?
