Question

After Effects crashing when using Element 3D

Hello !

I've just installed and bought Element 3D V2.2. Whenever I apply the effect on a solid and click on "Scene setup" the window shows up but After Effects instantly crashes after.

I attached a screenshot of the error window and the crash log.

Thanks a lot for helping!

It's an issue with the latest After Effects version. I'm forced to use AFX 2020 17.1 in order to do my work with the Element 3D plugin. Hopefully there's an update to the plugin or After Effects to make them work together again. Element hasn't been updated in years, so it's past due.

This is the current version of Element (2.2.2) in the current AE release (17.7.0 x 45) on Windows 10. Working fine over here!

1. Make sure your video card drivers are up to date. Element has always been touchy about that.
2. I would get in touch with Video Copilot support (https://www.videocopilot.net/support/). They've always been very responsive whenever I ran into issues, and you might find someone on their forums with your same OS and same issue. Yes, your issue is happening in AE, but since it's a third-party plugin, that's where I would look first.

Good luck!

Hello, thanks for the help. Forgot to precise but I'm on MacOS 11 Big Sur with a recent update and I heard the GPU drivers were updated automatically with the OS. I guess is it not coming from the GPU. I may have to completely reinstall AE or get in touch with VC's support as you suggested.
