Hi I just got After Effects today and on playback, it drops to about half the frames. I am trying to run 30 fps but it drops to about 12. Could anyone help me?

If you are new please start here to learn how the UI works. Basic AE

After Effects is unlike any other video editing application because it is not a video editing application. AE is used to create shots, visual effects and motion graphics that you cannot create in a video editing app (NLE).

The settings in your composition panel should be a magnification factor of 50% or less and the composition resolution should be set to Auto for most preview operations.

Have you decreased the magnification ratio/screen size in the comp panel?

Ok thank you very helpful. I realize now it's not a video editor so I'm just going to get premier pro. Thank you for the response.
