After Effects Incredibly Slow on MacBook M1 Pro

Hello Everyone, I got a brand new 16 gb Apple Macbook M1 Pro almost a year ago. I'm a design student and AfterEffects is usually my go to. In the beginning it was incredibly smooth. My playback quality was always set on full regardless of what I had in the composition. I work mostly on motion graphics so I usually have a lot of different layers and a lot of keyframes. Nowadays AE is incredibly heavy, even with playback set on half and my export time extended exponentially. My battery also used to last over a day but now, working on AE, my battery lasts around 5 hours. I tried clearing my system data cache but nothing changed. I feel like there is something I'm missing. Is there anything I could do?
