After Effects is freezing when opening project file (MacOS)

macOS Monterey 12.1 (Macbook Pro 2019), After Effects 22.1.1

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I worked on a After Effects project. After saving it and trying to open it again my After Effects just freezes (macOS cursor loading).

My guess is that I used heavy effects, but this makes no sense because it should load anyways.

I tried the method with the Capslock. Everything is alright despite 1-2 compositions. When I click on those, AE freezes again. I never had this problem before.

I hope some of yall can maybe help me.

Sorry for your issue.

Have you tried importing the project into a new blank project? If that doesn't help, here are a few suggestions:

  • Lower the preview quality.
  • Clear the media cache (Edit >  Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache).
  • Disable the effects temporarily and enable them at the time of export.
