After Effects keeps freezing my computer

For at least a week now, when I run After Effects (latest update) I can work with it for about 10-30 minutes, then the program and my whole computer freezes up and has to be restarted.

My AE seldom crashed before, but now it crashes all the time.

Has anyone else this problem?

I solved it by setting "Mercury software only". No more crashes now.

I have the same problem but as you have told you can use it for 10 to 30 mins...... I am not able to use it after importing my media. It freezes and doesn't work. The screen remains steady.. preview does not plays.... What can I do.. I am tired

    Hi grubulle22643861lup3,

    Sorry for your issue.

This is an old thread. I'd suggest creating a new post with the following details:

    • Your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version).
    • The exact version of After Effects you're using.
    • If possible, a screenshot or screen recording that shows the issue.

    We're here to help,

    Thanks,

    Nishu

Impossible to say. You have not provided any actual system info. The behavior you describe is typical when the onboard memory of your graphics card gets clogged up and isn't flushed correctly, so maybe start by updateing your graphics driver in order for AE's GPU functions to work more reliably.

Thanks, I don´t know anything about hardware and system info. I bought an Alienware computer simply to get away from memory/RAM/graphic card issues...

I have updated my Nivida card, I think that´s the graphics card, updated Windows, uninstalled some software I never use, nothing changes... keeps crashing every half hour.

Guess I´ll have to live with restaring my computer every 30 minutes when working with AE in the future...
