Question

After effects keeps freezing when rendering animation with sound

I am using after effects CS6 (this is what is installed on my work computer) using it for animation, I can render the audio for preview but when I try to export with audio it freezes and after 10 minutes it says that the output server stopped responding. It doesn't render at all during that time. I tried changing output formats and emptying disk cache but it didn't help. I don't know understand what the problem is, could it just be because it is an old version of the program?

You cannot use certain audio files because of their license.  DRM may prevent certain files from rendering (doesn't matter which version you are using).

I recorded the sound myself and I tried with different sound files as well so I don't think that's the problem

Thanks for writing in, ada_sertcan1484.

That's an old version! Let's see what we can do.

The first thing I'd recommend is transcoding the audio file and then replacing it in your project. This will rule out any issue with the media file. If that doesn't help, can you check if it is happening with any other project? If you've the option, try exporting using Media Encoder.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Nishu

Transcoding the audio files didn't solve the issue and I tried with other projects none of them rendered with sound. There is no problem when the output module is set to lossless but anything with audio output freezes the program. I'm guessing the issue is because of version of the program or the computer because it has the same problem with different projects. I don't have media encoder on this computer unfortunately.

You can try resetting your preferences and see if that helps. Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Shift + Option + Command on mac) and launch After Effects to reset the preferences.
