Hi, So after countless attempts at contacted Adobe over twitter they told me to post here.

Okay so when I try and playback my video (its a low spec gaming video with one effect and should be fine..) it says that im only using like 1gb of ram to do it, although im dedication 13gb. It runs my frames sometimes at 6/60fps but on a good day its more like 50/60fps. My computer is a macbook pro with 13gb of rap (it was 1700 pound and shouldnt have an issue running a simple gaming video). In addition i run the video through an encoder which improved it but doesnt fix it.

You may want to try emptying your disk cache and doing a clean database and cache.

On Mac you to got to the top bar After Effects/Media & Disk Cache.

Windows would be Edit/Media & Disk Cache.

Then click empty disk cache and clean database and cache. Then close and re-start After Effects.

    I hope that this helps.

    (sigh.)

A lot of things influence the speed of preview playback, especially the comp's frame rate and the dimensions of the comp..... neither of which you have disclosed.  When I preview at 1920x1080/59.94, I don't expect real-time previews.  I set the comp resolution to half, the comp size to 50% and I preview every other frame.  It's good enough to catch mistakes, AND THAT IS WHAT PREVIEWING IS FOR!

You want real-time playback?  Use Premiere Pro.  Don't fart around with AE.

60 frames a second. 1080 or 720 with lowbit rate so the colours arent too bold. The size i use is 75 or 50% too and what are the steps for seeing every other step?

Are you new to AE? Do you understand that a compositing and motion graphics app has to process every frame before it is loaded into ram preview? Do you understand how comp resolution (should be set to auto) and Magnification Factor in the comp panel effect playback? Did you know that highly compressed footage can tale a long time to decode and slow down performance? Have you spend any time going through the basic training materials posted here: Basic AE

After Effects is not a video editing program. AE is a compositing and motion graphics app specifically designed to create shots that you cannot create in a NLE and all compositing and motion graphics apps run slower than video editors.

Yeah, there is a difference though between slow and five bloody frames a second! Even a 3-second clip would take 5 minutes to load! It should be this slow. I should be able to do basic editing with it. Please understand that im getting five frames a second. How do i process it so i can see it in real time? This didn't help me at all. It only asked me questions I didn't know the answer too..?

Maybe you could just explain why a basic video is taking hours to be able to preview at 4 frames a second because this ISNT NORMAL!
