After Effects Playback/Preview Issue

Hello!

I am having an issue with AE's playback/preview function. When I press the spacebar to preview my AE project, the video does not play. The time indicator tends to jump back rather than play the video. Restarting AE does fix it, but only temporarily. The issue consistently comes back after just a few minutes (sometimes I only get one successful playback). I've tried the following fixes, but none of them permanently fix the problem:

  • Purged memory/disk cache/cleaned database
  • Deleted plugins
  • Uninstalled/reinstalled AE
  • Updated NVIDIA drivers (currently have the latest version: 527.56)
  • Audio Hardware - swapping default settings/changing latency (people have expressed this fixes their issue, but AE consistently freezes and crashes whenever I try to change any of the default output or latency settings, which leads me to believe it is some kind of audio issue)

Attached below are my system specs and a screenshot of AE at the time of the issue. Having to restart AE as often as I have to is making the program virtually impossible to use, so if anyone knows what might be happening, you would be my savior!

You have enabled "Jump to preview time" and set the preview to use the work area, so the initial jumping to the start position is expected. The rest sound like the mundane graphics driver issues with hardware acceleration. Someoen suggested installing the older 517.xx Studio driver since that apparently works, so give that a whirl.

Hey Mylenium!

I really appreciate the response. I finally got a chance to jump back into AE. I decided to try and play my comp again without changing anything, and someone on another board mentioned they deleted one of their precomps and that fixed the problem.

So I went ahead and deleted "Comp 1", and that seems to have fixed the issue...keeping my fingers crossed!
