After Effects Preview and Screen completely Black

I have read all the "solved" black screen issues: I tried purging, rebooting, ZOOMING OUT, looking for the preview eye icon and ensuring the eye was clicked, but I still have this issue . For older AE projects I can see the image but new compositions I get the black screen. . . ?

In addition to what Kartika asked, are there any third-party plug-ins installed? Also, what's the exact version of After Effects you're using?
