Question

After effects preview renders a few frames at a time and resets

There are some posts about a simlar issue related to audio devices, and others related to RAM. I ran into a similar symptoms tonight, related to RAM (sort of). I precomposed a clip to add a warp stabilzer effect to it. After some work, the footage in the precomp had a warp stabilizater effect, and the precomp as a layer in the original comp also had a warp stabilizer effect, but it was toggled off. The on/off toggle made no difference because there was still some sort of recursive created that must've just slammed RAM thank you ma'am every few frames (128 GB RAM). So if the issue shows up suddenly, in the middle of your work, it could be a recursive like this.

And what exactly are you trying to say? Did you fix it? I'm confused...

My apologies for not explaining the fix - delete the second (toggled off) effect to remove the recursive that prevented rendering more than a few preview frames.

If the secondary effect is still needed then pre-render the precomp, import the rendered file and use it to replace usage of the precomp - hold down the [ALT] or [OPTION] key, then click and drag the new file (from the project panel) on top of the precomp in one of two places - if you drag it on top of the precomp in the main timeline it replaces that single usage; if you drag and drop it on top of the precomp in the project panel it replaces all usage (the original precomp remains unchanged in either case).
