Shift + / will fit the composition in the composition panel. You need to spend a little time studying the UI so you understand how to use the hundreds of options you have to choose from.

Check AE version and make sure it is up to date. Make sure that graphics drivers are compatible. If all else fails, uninstall and reinstall using the Creative Cloud app.
