after effects randomly closing with no error message

What are your system language settings and the text engine settings in AE? Do you use any custom fonts in your project? The crash indicates a font rendering issue and in such cases the first thing to do always is to clean out all unnecessary and unused fonts and check your language settings. Anything more will require some actual info about what you are doing.

nevermind- logs came back showing the same thing 

i just ran an sfc scan, found a corrupted file and fixed that but it still does the same thing but generates no crash logs
