after effects scrubbing timeline

I have a weird thing in after effects CC 2019 timeline, it see to be very jerky/ jumpy and it looks like the timeline has a weird grid so when I try to scrub through the animation it is very jerky/jumpy.

This is what the timeline looks like when you're zoomed in really far; the colors are alternating to indicate each frame.
Are you intending to be zoomed in so closely? You can hit minus - to zoom out.
