After Effects takes a very long time to start if Windows firewall is on

Hello,

After Effects hangs for minutes on the loading screen at Initializing MediaCore, and also later before loading the recent projects window if Windows 10 firewall is on. When I turn the firewall off it works fine. I haven't blocked anything in the firewall settings, and have let through everything adobe related that I could find.

It seems like I'm missing something obvious because it should work on Windows 10 out of the box, really. This guide here ( After Effects or Premiere Pro crashes after starting ) doesn't seem to apply anymore. What else can I do?

Thanks!

Start by monitoring your firewall while AE is actually running and see which ports and coinnection it is blocking, then create a new exception rule for AE to unblock the relevant ports locally.

Thank you! In the end, it turned out that the main exe (AfterFX.exe) was blocked by the firewall, which is strange because I remember letting it through when I was given the choice, and I certainly never blocked it manually. It seem that the firewall somehow started to block it by default, without asking me again.
