Question

After effects timeline issue, preview not working in simple projects, the same in Premiere Pro

Hello Everyone,

I have a very irritating problem with After Effects and Premiere Pro during my work, when I need to preview anything on my timeline, in both software.

My project is simple 2d animation, based on Illustrator vectors which I import from libraries into After Effects to animate. The whole project is based on 12 After Effects pre-comps, which I drag into Premiere Pro to edit audio and video transitions between them. The pre-comps aren’t complex (maximum 10-15 shape layers with basic movement/transparency/rotation keyframes). Audio is also in ae precomps (mp3) and they are no longer than 22 sec.

The problem starts when I need to preview anything in Premiere Pro or After Effects. When I click the spacebar to preview, my time indicator does not move, the preview is not working at all or I can hear the audio only (sometimes thorned). No matter if I select the work area to preview, skip frames, or change the resolution to 1/4. It just does not work. And yes, I was waiting for the green timeline informing me about rendered preview. It didn't work.

In Premiere Pro it is even worse. When I update the precomp, Premiere notes it after a longer while. However if I need to preview that by sequence/render preview the process starts, but when the render is done, the play toggle arrow in the monitor window changes to stop and does not work. All I can do is close the project and reopen all the projects it to preview the rendered in/out area, which is very frustrating.

My laptop is:

HP Zenbook studio G8

X64 PC

Intel Core i7 -11800H 2.30 GHz

RAM 16GB

SSD drive 1TB

Windows 11

I will just list what I have done, and it didn't help:

      1. Install and uninstall After Effects
      2. Driver's update (also windows update)
      3. Change render engine
      4. Change preview output
      5. Try with old versions of graphic's card driver
      6. Reset the preferences options
      7. Change cache size/localization
      8. Change audio hardware
      9. Reset/change working space
      10. Remove unused precomps/elements from Ae project
      11. Importing everything into a new project
      12. Overwwritting file
      13. Combine Memory and Performance

I would be grateful for any tips

regards

Karolina

Hi Karolina,

Thanks for the details post.

What's the resolution of the Compositions you're working in. Does it happen with all the projects? Try testing a new project with a few shape/text layers. It'll help us understand if it's related to the particular project or After Effects. Which GPU do you have?

Let us know, we're here to help.

Note: Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Nishu
