Question

After Effects "VR Environment" support on M1 Pro (or Max)

Currently, I have a 3 year old i9 MacBook Pro (specs below). When I try to run After Effects' VR Environment, I get a red screen dialogue saying, "This effect requires GPU ecceleration".  I'm considering upgraging to an M1 Pro (or Max) machine, vs. buying an eGPU, as these are losing support and I could make use of the additional power for reasons unrelated to my question.

However, I cannot find any documentaion or review that confirms support of After Effects' VR Enviroment on an M1 Pro MacBook. While these new machines are very powerful, I've had been surprised in the past by After Effects not taking advantage certain performance specs. (ie - having tons of RAM allocated, yet After Effects only uses a small portion for rendering.) I'm sure this is due to Apple's historically less powerfull GPUs. I'm hoping the M1 Pro (or Max) specs can get me where I need to be. I REALLY need the VR fuctionality right now. VR features have been pulled from other Adobe program updates, like Photoshop and I need to find a workflow that dosn't require older, slower procedures.

Thanks!

Current MacBook Pro specs (Running Catalina v10.15.7)

Memory: 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Graphics: Radeon Pro Vega 20 4 GB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Let me move this to the After Effects forum for you, which I think is the appropriate forum for your question. Someone there might move it to the video discussion forum, but we'll try here first.

The Using the Community forum is for help in using the Adobe Support Community forums, not for help with specific programs. Product questions should be posted in the associated product community.
