the solution is you have to remove a shortcut to your plugins of ae or ae folder, just go into your ae folder wherever its installed in file explorer and search for .lnk files which are shortcut files and delete the one on the date the bug started happening

@aengelren

Your screenshot shows that you have two sets of Sapphire plugins installed.

If I had to guess, you have a version of Sapphire from when it was published by GenArts (the prior publisher) and a version that is published by BorisFX (the current publisher).

You'll want to determine which set you want to keep and then uninstall the other version.

If you're having trouble determining which uninstaller to run, I'd reach out to BorisFx support for instructions on how to proceed.

Something that you can do instead:  Follow the file path shown in your screen shot to the MediaCore folder and then rename the "Sapphire Plug-ins" folder to "(Sapphire Plug-ins)".  This should prevent the plug-ins in that folder from loading the next time you open After Effects.  You didn't mention the version of After Effects that you're running.  For much older versions, we had to use tilde, "~", instead of parentheis, "(" and ")", to tell Ae to ignore a plug-in or plug-in folder.

Hi mayaemily,

Are you using After Effects CC 2019?

Can you show us a screenshot of the error message?

How did you install the plugins, if any?

I was able to find a similar discussion with a correct answer. Please check this and let us know if it helps: Duplicate plug-ins warning - Same directory given

Thanks,

Rameez

hi Rameez. I added a screenshot of the warning here.

I am using after effects 2019.

the plugins were already installed with after effects, I tried what was suggested on the similar question and it didn't work,  any other suggestions?

thanks.

This problem can be tackled in two ways:

1. Manually navigate to the location of these effects and delete the duplicates one by one.

2. Use the CC Cleaner tool to uninstall After Effects completely, navigate to Program Files > Adobe and make sure the After Effects folder is no longer there, and then reinstall After Effects.

Try either of the two steps (or both) and let us know if it helps.

Try uninstalling the duplicates.
