Question

After Effects won't start from the CC. Crashes when starting up from the Start Menu.

The company I work for was sold. I received a new CC license from my new company and installed Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Audition, and Premier. All the apps work except After Effects, nothing happens if you try to start Ae from CC. You get an Application error if I try to start it from Start. I will attach the error. My IT support people are telling me they can't help me as this a security issue between Adobe and Google Chrome. I am really stuck. Does anyone know anything about this and how I can get it fixed.

Hey Dale,

Thanks for the question and welcome to the forum. I've seen this before, so try the following first.

If After Effects doesn't launch and shows the 0x0000142 error, it’s often caused by missing or corrupted Visual C++ runtime libraries. The quickest fix is to repair or reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages for both x86 and x64 systems. You can download the latest versions directly from Microsoft’s site here: https://adobe.ly/47waUXU

After installing or repairing the runtimes, restart your computer and try launching After Effects again. This usually solves the problem without needing more complex troubleshooting.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I installed both the x86 and X64 packages but I still get the same results when trying to start up Ae. Do you have any more ideas?
