aftereffects continues to crash before loading, and creates two "crash files" on my desktop. to my knowledge I am not using any plugings

Question

I attempt to launch After Effects, but it reaches “scanning folder usdGeom” or some other “usd” file, and then it creates two “crash files” on my desktop and stops launching. I have attempted to launch it in “safe-mode”, “reset preferences”, “manage plugins” etc. to the same result. I am not currently running any plugins.

Restarting my computer didn't change anything. Pressing the “update” button in creative cloud for AE didn’t seem to launch anything.

Recently, I received a message from Photoshop that the scratch-disk was full, so perhaps I have accidentally deleted something important while trying to remove temporary files in the adobe files. However, Photoshop ran fine after removing some large files from my computer.

I must have this program for work! Please help me resolve this.

Hi Guinevere, this is most likely caused by an outdated GPU driver. Try updating your GPU driver directly from the manufacturer's site — not through Windows Update, which often lags behind. Restart your machine after updating and try launching AE again.

A few details that would help if that doesn't resolve it:

1. Your exact AE version (Help > About) and OS.

2. Your GPU model and current driver version.

3. If any crash reporter dialog appears when AE closes, please include your email address before submitting.
