AfterEffects will not save but pretends to save

Question

I've seen other people have similar issues with AE.

I am on a MAC, running the current (22.5.0) on Monterey 12.4

Ae has all the appropriate permissions. (I have reinstalled it several times now, no fixes).

It goes through the motions of saving, but when I need to come back to my work later, it's simply gone. No autosaves either.

The only thing that seems to keep it working is to have it connected to the internet while I'm working. Otherwise no saves at all.

Why do I need to be online to do work? This is very frustrating since I work from a variety of places and don't always have a reliable connection. I am fully paid up for the full package and this keeps happening. It enough to make me start looking for alternatives.

Roland's suggestions unfortunately won't help. This is a bug largly affecting Monterey and M1 chips. After Effects stops saving after 5 minutes of use and the autosave function doesn't work at all.

Loads of us are experiencing exactly the same issues, please add your problem to the existing threads so Adobe start paying proper attention to it:
