Question

Alternative CODEC for rendering QuickTime .mov (instead of Photo-jpeg)

Hi there,

so I switch to After Effects CC after using years now the old 5.5 version.

Now I`m in trouble, cause I`m searching for the right Codec to render 4K .mov animation (Framerate 30)...

In the old 5.5 version it was possible to use the Photo-jpeg Codec and scroll down the Quality to 95%...that was a good alternative so that the size could be compressed...

What Codec I could use NOW...or what Codec is working for .mov ?

Thanks for your time and helpful answer,

Frank

GoPro CineForm is also a good codec, in addition to the Apple ProRes versions.

I think you have a good alternative using Apple ProRes 422 or 422 HQ codecs. You will get very good results with optimized file sizes. Even in ProRes LT you will get good results.

Thanks for your feedback.

Looks like the ProRes 422 / 422 HQ / is the only way for me, thats possible.

Figure it out the last half day.

BUT is there any chance to reduce the file MB size ?

>>The render option is grey<< and I couldnt it scroll down from 100% for example to 95% ?

Is there any option for this ?

Thank you once again for your time,
Frank

No, there is no option to reduce the quality. ProRes is a lossless codec so it will adapt the datarate automatically depending on the frame info. If you need to reduce the size then the options are ProRes LT or PreRes Proxy.
