Question

another Color management Issue..

I rendered out a bunch of layers to ProRes 444 in order to replace them, and then change some graphics on top of that.. 30++ versions have to be made. .
Project is set to sRGB, and I rendered out as such. When I imp[ort it back, for some reason After Effects decides to interpret it as rec709.
I then render out the 30 versions also as sRGB, but with ProRes HQ (422) color profil set to sRGB as well. When I import that it ALSO gets interpreted at rec709 but since it's 422 or HQ I can not change the interpretation. What gives?!
...also having to handle 15GB extra just so I can change the color profile is not feasable..

It's probably something wonky with the internal metadata vs. AE's automatic footage interpretation. You could try and edit the rules in the preferences and see if it unlocks the footage interpretation. I don't really see the point, though, given that Rec 709 and sRGB are almost the same and you appear to experience no genuine color shifts.

...since the client was obsessing with the washed out look, that extra contrast is not welcome.

Got another day to sort this out.

I've always worked with no set colour profile without problems ...
