Question

Anything I import or add to the composition just doesn't show up. I'm constantly looking at a void.

What does work though is playing/previewing the animation. But the second I stop the preview it goes blank again and I can’t edit anything. When I mean anything I mean everything I try to import. I’ve tried editing a plethora of Preference settings, Image settings, trying new images to import, image settings, composition settings, I’ve tried downgrading my AE, I’ve also tried downgrading and switching my drivers to studio drivers but nothing changes.

The fact that content shows during preview but disappears when the preview stops sounds like a UI redraw / hardware acceleration issue.

Is it happening in a specific project? Are you able to see the text, shape, and solid layer, or do they disappear as well?

Try disabling Preferences > Appearance> "Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels", restarting AE, and seeing if the Comp panel behaves normally.

Also, could you share your system specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS) and your exact AE version? That'll help narrow it down.

    Let us know.

    Thanks,

    Nishu

    1. It happens on every project
    2. I’m not able to see anything what so ever. (Text, shape, and solid layer)
    3. I’ve tried disabling “Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels” but nothing changed.
    4. CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 9 275HX (2.70 GHz)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU (8 GB)
      Intel(R) Graphics (128 MB)
      Ram: 32.0 GB
      OS: Windows 11
AE Version: AE 26.3 (I’ve tried a majority of the other versions but it didn’t do anything)

Thanks for getting back and sharing the details. Can you try running After Effects in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled? Here's how: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/how-to-troubleshoot-startup-issues-in-after-effects-using-the-startup-repair-options/td-p/13866327

Let us know if that brings any change.

    Thanks,

    Nishu

I had this issue on windows years ago!
The workaround I used was to reset the AE preferences, sign out from creative cloud, reinstalling graphic card driver

Are you dealing with 3D? It could be your computer is struggling with the models. Try clearing your cache, going to your cache drive and deleting all the folders and try copying an effect to a new layer.

Also, what happens in a new project with a comp with a single solid?  Does that show up?

I’m not dealing with 3d, just images. I’ve tried clearing my cache and copying the effect to a new layer but nothing changes. When I meant nothing shows up nothing shows up, including solids. And yes this is across every project. not project specific.
