Apple M1 - no "save as" window on external monitors

Same as in Photoshop, when using an external monitor on M1 Macs the "save as" window is not being displayed. This happens when trying to save a project or render a composition.

Only way I can fix it is switch main monitor to the build-in.

More specific info is certainly required in terms of screen settings, actual monitor model, connection used and so on. Dialogs sporadically disappearing or menus not being accessible seems to be a rather common problem with some combinations of OS X and M1 chips, though, not just on external monitors. For some users manually fiddling with the Rosetta 2 emulation options in the app package fixes it, so that may be worth a try. Otherwise I could see a million other issues from specific HDMI/ Thunderbolt/ USB compatibility problems to generally fiddling with OS X graphics settings. not a mac guy, though, so I can only report on what I observe here on these forums.

What's the take away from your answer Mylenium? It sounds like you are trying to excuse the bug...

If there is some analytics or log dump I can provide - I'm happy to do that.

 

Here is the hardware I'm experiencing the problem on:

- MacBook Pro M1 16GB (MacOS 12.0.1)

- Samsung USB-C - HDMI EE-I3100FBEGWW

- Dell U2518D

 

I had a problem 3 years ago with my PC workstation. I was told I need to upgrade my CPU and my GPU, with that I had to also get a new Motherboard and RAM, I spent $3500 and the bug didn't go away. I got an apology and 6 months of CC for free, but that is nothing comparing to the money I spent, so I'm a bit salty when I hear that it's not Adobe fault.

 

Taking into consideration that from a vast array of software only latest updates of Photoshop and After Effects is having problems makes it a bit odd to try to point the problem to hardware, than software implementation.
