Question

Apply a Gradient from a Library to a Fill

Hi folks, I just started trying out the "Library" feature -- it seemed like a great way to store gradients that I recreate a lot for clients and be able to grab them quickly. However, when I open the "Libraries" panel in AE, it seems like the gradients are stuck there. I can see lots of info, but I can't apply them to an object.

Why can't I just drag the gradient into the "Fill" box of a shape and have it apply? Am I missing something?

The workaround with color palettes seems to be using the eyedropper tool to grab the color from a visible palette in the Libraries panel -- but that doesn't work with a multi-colored gradient. Any help would be appreciated.

AE does not support layer styles or color swatches from Photoshop and Illustrator in such a way. The best way to proceed would be to have a PSD with the gradients applied to layers already so they can be copy & pasted from there. Doesn't need to be huge, a simple 200 x 200 pixel document that you can import into each project will suffice.
