apply two masks to a null object

Question

Hi, I am trying to make two masks (with the same shape) follow the same path.

What I am trying to do ist to have a magnifying effect that is not only enlarging but also revealing a different background/ content. These are my two masks, one with the magnifying Effect (Tranformation Effect) and the other mask on the layer with the background (with alpha Matte).

I tried to apply both layers to a null object path, but the positioning/animation of the two masks isn't congruent. I would be happy if you can give any help.

The description of your workflow does not make any sense to me. You can't apply a mask to a null object. You can't make a mask follow a path. You can make a layer follow a path, you can use a masked layer for a track matte or for the source for Set Matte and a bunch of other effects. A screenshot with the modified properties of the layers showing would help us figure out what you are trying to do. Show us what you did to the layers by selecting them and pressing the 'u' key twice.

If you are trying to poke a hole in a layer, make that hole move around, and have the Center of the Magnify effect follow that hole around the easiest thing to do would be to create a shape layer the size of the hole, make sure the anchor point of the shape layer is in the center of the shape, use the Pickwhip to point the Center of the Magnify effect to the position of the shape layer, and set the shape layer as a track matte for the layer you want to poke a hole in. It would look like this:
