Arri Amira - Log Footage - Difficulty in Keying! Help

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to green screen key footage that was shot on an Arri Amira.

I believe it is log footage and it is very difficult to get a good key from keylight.. I have to do so many hacks to get it right............

I haven't keyed log footage or Arri footage before.

Can anyone please advise on if I have to change the After Effects Working Space in the Project Settings, and what profile (if any) I should assign in the interpret footage settings?

Footage Properties:

2048x1152

Apple ProRes 444, Linear PCM, Timecode

Color Profile: HD (1-1-1)

Arri Amira - Name Extension (if this identifies the LUT?): A002C021_171009_T59F.mov

Thanks!

J

You have 2 options to start with the Keying process:

1.- Apply the correct 3D LUT to the footage before the keying process. LUTs for the Amira can be generated with the camera or you can use the free version of Davinci Resolve to export the .cube, .look or .3dl file to use it in AE through the Apply Color LUT filter.

2.- You can use the Lumetri Color Effect in AE where you have an Input LUT parameter. Amira Default LogC can be selected to convert your footage to normalize your video levels.

Once you apply the correct look to your footage, you can start with Keylight.

Also worth doing what Jose suggests on a duplicate layer and using it to alpha-mask your original footage layer - that way you can "correct" the colors on the key layer specifically to make keying easier, even if it messes up everything else.
