Question

Audio distortion based on fps

For the past 2 or 3 weeks I noticed my audio has been distorted, but only in preview. It changes based on the fps I'm editing in, and it seems to only sound right when I set it to 26.5 fps. The lower fps that I make it, the higher pitched the audio preview will be and vice versa. But, from what ive seen it doesnt affect the final product but makes it very hard to edit. Matching the preview fps to the comp. fps isnt fixing it, any ideas?

Check the Preview Panel Frame and make sure that the Frame Rate is set to Auto. The displayed Frame Rate should be enclosed like this (24), and the value should match the frame rate of the current comp.

Yeah it is like that, and I did both auto and manually switching the fps and it had no effect.

Did you let the preview fully render? Sometimes you have to let the preview run two or three times. Did you check the Info Panel to see the framerate? You should get a display that shows you the frame rate, and it should say Real Time when it is playing at the right speed.

If the comp is playing in real-time and the audio still has problems, then I would bet that you have an improperly encoded MP3 as an audio file in your comp. The standard for video production is WAV (first choice) or AIFF at 48KHZ and 16 Bit stereo. Try transcoding your MP3 to a professional format. Audition is an excellent tool for fixing audio problems if you have the Creative Suite.
