Hi there,

I've seen so many of these posts. I'm at a point where I feel I might need to reinstall AE, but just thought I'd make a post if anyone else gets stuck too, and well, I'm desperate for help and would appreciate it.

I've been using AE 2020 without any issues the entire year, but this morning when I opened up my work file, the audio preview didn't want to work. I have wav. files, but also mp4. Both isn't working.

What I've tried before asking for help here:

-  Checked Audio Hardware > Device Class: MME
-  Checked Audio Hardware > Output > Speakers (My default, Logitech Headset)
-  Checked that sounds are turned on within the layer ✔
-  Checked that the audio in the Preview bar is ticked on. ✔
-  Restarted Computer ✔
-  Made sure that the headphones playing audio through other apps ✔
-  Made a new file, dragged in one layer of audio, and it still doesn't work. ✔
-  Shows that audio is indeed playing. ✔
- "Did you try turning it on and off again?" ✔

If anyone could shed some light on my situation, it would be appreciated.

- Open Volume Mixer and check that After Effects is high enough. ✗
- Feel like an idiot.  ✔

Thanks for your time either way.

Thank you for figuring this out. I ran into the same issue in ae2021, but the volume mixer showed it was 100%. I moved that down and back up and my audio was back. Just in case this note also helps anyone else.
