Audio slowing down, video speeds changing rapidly

So i've just gone back to editing on a mac, and ran into this issue. This is not a ram/playback issue, im fairly sure. Basically one of two things happen if i add a clip, either the video is normal but the audio is very slow (0.5 to be precise) or the video is incredibly fast and the audio is normal/sometimes slow. Ive cleared my settings multiple times and looked for answers, tried the ones i did find and nothing helped. Im using AE2020 on a mac, thanks in advance 🙂
