Auto leading in MOGRT does not work in Premiere Pro

I have a simple callout created in Afer Effects with a text box on a background layer. The text layer has auto leading applied (Auto selected in the Character panel). In the Essential Graphics panel, I have enabled the Font Size property for the text and when I use this slider in AE and the text spans two lines, the auto leading works fine. 

 

However, when I export the MOGRT and import it into Premiere Pro, auto leading does not work. When I increase the Font Size slider the characters overlap as shown in the screenshot.

 

I'm using the AE v18.2.1 and PP v15.0. 

 

Any ideas how to fix this?

Try adding a text animator for leading. 

 

Your cropped and uploaded screenshot* does not tell us anything about the workflow or the comp so I'm guessing you didn't set it up like this:

I didn't export this and test it, but direct access to Line Spacing is not yet supported. This might be a workaround.

* The "Drag & Drop here..." area is buggy and should not be used to share images. Please use the toolbar or just drag your images to the reply field.

Thanks for the suggestion, Rick. Unfortunately, that didn't work either. I'm not actually trying to control the leading in the Essential Graphics panel. I just want it to maintain auto leading if I change the font size in the EG panel.

 

Besides your suggestion, I also tried adding "style.setAutoLeading(true);" to the Source Text property on the text layer, but that didn't work either.

 

In case it's helpful for others to make suggestions, the project is made up of two comps, one nested inside the other. The nested comp called "callout-text-on-bg" contains:

  • The text layer with a tint effect to change the color. It uses a pre-drawn text box to limit the amount of text that can be displayed. (Maybe the text box is the issue?)
  • Two background layers (one light, one dark) that automatically resize to the content of the text layer.
  • A "control" layer where I can adjust the leading of the text and padding of the bg around the text. These are not included in the EG panel.

 

The main comp is what I am exporting as MOGRT. It's called "six-pillars-callout" and contains:

  • Four instances of the nested comp each with an different animation that slides in from top, bottom, left or right.
  • A "control" layer with Expression Controls for manipulating properties in the Essential Graphics panel
    • A "Theme" drop down that changes the tint of the text and the opacity of the backgrounds.in the nested comp. It's either light text on a dark bg or dark text on a light bg.
    • A "Slide in from" drop down that changes the opacity of the four instances in the main comp.

 

The only other item in the EG panel is the Source Text from the text layer in the nested comp and the Font Size slider.

 

I'm going to try using a standard text field instead of the text box and see if that makes a difference.
