Background layer not showing up

I am new to after effects and trying to replace one of my premiere pro clips with an after effects composition. In after effects I did all the rotoscoping and editing that I wanted for the clip, but found out all the way at the end of the process that I can not see the background, and when I recheck in premiere pro, it is also not visible there. Attatched is the composition image, rotoscoped layer, and background layer. I do not know why the background is not showing up on the composition, I used a solid layer but set the blend mode to screen which is what fixed this issue for others upon search but past that I could not find any information. Thanks 🙂

It sounds like the background layer might be hidden or the blend mode is causing issues. Check if the background layer is visible in After Effects and try switching the blend mode to "Normal" to see if that helps. Also, make sure you’re using Dynamic Link correctly in Premiere Pro and that the composition settings are correct.

It looks like you used the Roto Brush in AE.

In the Layer panel, that Freeze button on the lower right will freeze the current Roto effect so it doesn't have to re-run everytime you try to preview.

That may make it easier for Premeire Pro to preview your AE comp.

Please keep in mind that previewing a live Ae comp in Premiere Pro is always more resource intensive then just previewing a video file so even with Freeze it may not preview properly.

There is nothing there to show. As per your image you split the layer, not duplicating it and you are mistaking the layer view for the comp view. You may want to study up on some basics.

Not sure what you mean about splitting layer. Additionally, I understand the difference between the layer and comp image, that wasnt the issue. I ended up finding a solution after struggling for a few hours. Essentially, since I was trying to replace a premiere pro clip with an after effects comp (Without exporting) and the clip has a TON of edits on it, after effects was basically just saying no. I was having trouble with rotoscoping in general as well, might have just been a long render time but regardless I just exported the clips and had no issues after that. I appreciate the response! I was really stuck on that for a while and will definitely use discussions like these in the future 🙂
