Hello everyone,

I am using the beam effect in After Effects and want to animate it so it appears by drawing itself from bottom to top and after a short interval disappear by un-drawing itself from top to bottom.

Any help on how to do this would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Thomas

You wanted the beam to go from start and end point to the middle, the opposite of the default beam setting, where it extend from middle to start and end point, right?

If so, motion mask is probably the best option.

Just use a motion mask, it's very simple.

Come on, that's just animating sliders from 0 to 100 and back. It's not hard at all! Play around with the sliders to understand what they are doing and you will get it by yourself.

Hi! I can see that it can expand from the middle, but how can I do it from the bottom?

The slider is called "Time" or something like that. It's default value is 50. Set it to 0 or 100, depending if you like it start to end, or end to start.

As I said, play around with the those sliders. Beam-effect is very trivial and you will conquer it, if you spend just 5 minutes with the settings.

Just animate the starting and/or ending points for the beam.  Very simple.
