Beginner Problem: Changing direction of object

Hi there

I want to change the direction of the object(fish) to the place where it is going. But when I add the scale keyframe at the particular point where I'd like to change the scale, then the entire motion flows along the same path. I want the object to change as its path changes but it continues to be in the same position.
Please help.

Thanks

Try this:

  • With the fish layer selected, go to Layer > Transform > Auto-orient
  • Set the option to Follow Path

With that set, your fish should always point in the direction of travel.

If the change in the position of the fish in a change between a scale of 100, 100 to a scale of -100, 100, you need to set a position keyframe for position when the Scale keyframe is 0, 100, then move down the timeline and move the layer in the other direction.

The other option is to make the layer 3D, make sure the anchor point is in the middle of the fish, then set a keyframe with Y rotation when the fish starts to slow down and complete 180º in rotation by the time the fish changes direction.

Got it?

I added the scale keyframe-a few frames ahead of the position keyframe and rotated the fish to follow the path and it worked!
Thank you

You apparently need more than one scale keyframe, if that's what you want. Anyway, you may wish to study a few basic tutorials. AE is less than intuitive and you can't "just dive in".
