How do you arch a 3d extruded text in after effect. I rather not do it manual as like to have an perfect arch. I also have element 3d but wich can do this. But im happy with the text I got already. This must be easy. I have enabeled per character animation in the animate drop down menu.

In order to bend a text you must use a mask as a bending path:

  • create a text, make it 3D, enable Per-character-3D, set the Extrusion Depth to 20
  • create a mask on the text layer to use it as a bending path. I suggest creating a circular mask and setting the blending mode of the mask to "None"
  • open the properties of text layer on the timeline (twirl open), go to Text -> Path Options -> Path and select your mask ("Mask 1")
  • add a rotation animator to the text and set the "X Rotation" to +90

You should end-up with something like this:

Hope this helps.

Personally, I would set up the comp and the camera using per-character 3D but the standard rendering engine. Then I would export the whole thing to C4D, import the C4D file, drop it in the composition, then do the extrusion and texturing in C4D Lite. Your project will render in about half the time and you'll have a lot more control over the extrusion and the texturing. The only downside to this workflow, you will have to learn how to use C4D lite... but it's pretty easy if this is all you are doing.

Exported C4D file looks like this:

Final comp looks like this:

You can If you are properly set up when you export the comp all you have to do is select use centered comp camera in Cineware and you can animate the camera move. Lighting changes happen in C4D, and so does texture, reflections, and all the other goodies.
