Best way to create a matrix/array?

Hello all,

What is the best way to recreate the attached video? I am working with updated branding and would like the possibility of having control of the speed at which the squares fade in and out, adding or removing colors to the pool, and changing density/increasing resolution. This file was provided to me with no access to the project file, so I tried to experiment some on my own. I figure there's something I can do with Generate Grid and other Generate effects attached to sliders, but I am very new to this and can't seem to find the proper terms I need to search (because I'm sure this is far from the first time someone has wanted to create this). Thanks for any and all help!

Here's the sequence of effects you require -
Fractal Noise - animate Evolution

Colorama - choose appropriate colors in the Output Cycle prop
Mosaic - set to 40 by 23 to obtain squares in a 16:9 comp (40*.5625 where .5625 is the inverse of a 16:9 comp's Aspect Ratio). For other Comp Aspect ratios, again, just multiply the Horizontal Block value by the inverse of the Comp Aspect Ratio to obtain the required value for the Vertical Block parameter to obtain squares)

Levels - crunch the White for the RGB Channels
Find Edges - adjust Blend with original

Here's an AEP - http://www.broadcastGEMs.com/download/bGEMs_AE_Forum_GenerateAniSquares_Grid.zip

To control the dissolves/fades, render out still images and fade them in to suit your needs. And, set Comp Framerate to 1fps or whatever works best for you when rendering out the stills. HTH

Thank you for your help. I tried to recreate the project file you provided, even using the exact same numbers for what seems like everything, but when I get to the Levels (indiv) effect it always messes up. My I/O options show my sliders going from 0 to 255, how do I get it to go from 0-1 like you have? Thank you again

I'm not certain which property you are alluding to. My Levels props go from 0-255 except for Gamma. And if you've downloaded the AEP I sent you, you should be better off using that as a starting point and then making property/value adjustments there. HTH
