Bezier Path Issue

In this tutorial it was asked to check the Bezier Path option but reason was not given. What is the reason?

you created a shape layer, not a mask. For shape layers this option is inert and does nothing. The AE interface just cannot hide it effectively, so admittedly it's confusing. If you still need to convert the circle to a path righ-click on it and chose the respective option.
