black screen

im new to ae and when im gonna my composition, the preview screen is black, and its not even in the format im using (1:1), its like full screen (16:9). im not using a black layer, im with the little eye thing on, im not with the caps lock on; i searched everywhere in every video and i dont know what to do anymore. can somebody finally help me ???
