Question

Blackmagic 4K playback After Effects, SLOW

Can someone please help me and my workflow, I recently purchased the Blackmagic pocket 4K camera and have shot footage in Blackmagic RAW. I transfer the footage into after effects no problem. I edit the footage at a quarter to help workflow out. But when I start playback at FULL it is so choppy and takes forever to load and crashes when it gets to the part my text affects come in. I've added color correction to the footage and a simple text effect.  I'm guessing I lack knowledge in understanding how to implement Blackmagics RAW format into AE. I don't believe my hardware is at play either. The slowness of the playback is really discouraging and is testing my patience

Software: After Effects 2020

CPU: AMD RYZEN 9 3900x

RAM: 32gb

GPU: 1080 TI DUKE 11gb

SSD: 500gb

It is sometimes easier and faster to edit it if you render it out to the squential images and load them into After Effects again.

4K raw footage takes a bunch of resources to playback at full resolution, even in Premiere Pro. Learn to check your motion and animation at a lower resolution, always keep the comp panel set to Auto, and use the 100% magnification factor and full resolution to check critical frames, and don't expect AE to act like an NLE.
