Question

Blurred shape layer is invisible on precompose

Hello anyone,

I haven´t found any solution to this on web.

I have a PNG image on MP4-background. The PNG is a "glassy frame" and it´s keyframed to "flip open".

I´ve blurred the glass frame area (with syncronized keyframes) and given some light reflections (CC Spotlight) in order to give it that "glassy" look. Hence, on the "top" of the PNG-image, there is a shape layer and an adjustment layer. The blur- and CC spotlight effects are on the adjustment layer. It looks ok. On the glass frame there are motion text graphics apprearing as well.

The goal is to create a kinda 3d-animated "timeline", where are several "stops" on the way. On each stop there will be this glass frame, which will open up revealing a new text graphic content. Hence, I need to make several copies of this animation (composition), while only the revealed text will be different. For this goal, I´ve precomposed the animation.

Here´s the problem:

After precomposing, the effects (blur and CC Spotlight) are not included (visible) on the main composition anymore. The effects (and keyframes) are included on the precomposition´s layers alright, although they are not visible there either (and of course there´s no background either, since it´s on the main composition).

I´ve tried to find a solution for weeks now. Is there anyone out there, who could help me out with this problem?

Huge thanks and all the best;

Simo

That's just how this stuff works. Sometimes there is simply no way to optimize the scenario and certain effects require actual pixels for processing. You have to duplicate the layers every time and include them annoying as it may be to put up with a gigazillion extra layers and pre-comps.

Thank you Mylenium for the reply.

So there´s really no "economic" way around it? Ohh, I didn´t expect that, given how many different ways there are in AE to do things. In that case, I have to start up a whole new idea from the scratch. The "timeline" would be in "3D", which means that each glass frame composition (there would be around 12 in total) would ghange in scale size and in dimensions for several seconds of time. Keyframing layer(s) motion on each compositions is not just worth it. Just making the one main composition was a whole lot of work. Even though the info wasn´t what I expected, I appreciate the reply and I thank you.

And hoping, that perhaps someone might have a second opinion. 🙂

Okay, I´ve tried different approach. I imported the AE-project to the PR-project and thought if by using dynamic link, I could multiply this one AE-composition in PR, and go from there. However, the same problem follows to PR, which is, that the blur-effect is not visible. CC Spotlight effect came through ok once again, but not the blur. The source of the issue is -I think- that although the blur effect is on the adjustment layer, its keyframes (for the fliping movement) are on the shape layer. And it´s eye ball of course is off, cause it´s gotta be invisible. If I turn shape layer´s eyeball on, it´s visible in PR-project as well. But I need the blur effect to be visible, not the shape layer itself. How do I go around this problem? Please, does anyone have an idea?

It´s ridicilous, the whole project is depended on one blur effect.
