Boris AE- can't track footage or create track data

I'm new to Boris AE. When I open it, the track option buttons (trans, scale etc) are unresponsive. From the effect controls panel, if I choose 'create track data', I have no available layers to choose from.

I've ensured I've selected the layer I want to track. I've tried:

-different projects and comps, and with different footage

-using it on mov, mp4 and precomps layers

-clearing caches (both boris AE and AE itself)

I've ensured that the comp's timecode is 0:00, and that the footage matches the comp.

Software and OS are both up to date.

I'm on a Mac Studio with M4 Max chip, running Sequoia 15.5 AE is version 25.2.2 (Build 2). 

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
