Question

Can anyone explain why these two layers don't line up?

The clips started in premiere pro and I replaced sequence with AE comp, in premiere pro I used gyroflow to help stablize the footage. I’m using Track Motion on 4K 60fps footage that’s been precomped twice and is now in a 1080p comp. I’m tracking inside the 1080 comp and applying the data to a null using Edit Target. The track itself looks solid with no visible drift, but once I apply it, the null starts in the correct position and then immediately drifts as playback begins. The null is currently parented to the tracked layer. Both layers are at 100% scale, and there’s no time remapping or stabilization applied.

I can see that there is position data for the null, but if it’s tracked parent also has position data, then the changing position properties would explain the drifting as the null’s coordinates are now based on the tracked layer and not the comp.

If you expose the position properties for both, we might get a better idea of the issue.

When I press “U” these are all the key frames that come up on the tracked parent layer. If I reset the postion at the bottom left the whole video moves to the bottom right and still doesn’t follow the track correctly.

Try duplicating your null, turn off the original and delete the position data for the new null.  With the null having its own position changes, it is sort of doubling the position when parented.
