Question

Can I Copy/Paste a layer into a new After Effects???

Hello,

So I figured out how to have 2 After Effects open at the same time. I really want to be able to copy layers from one AE to the other. I already know that I can save out layers and then import them into the other project but what I really want to determine is whether I can copy/paste from one AE to the other so that I can avoid having to save out and re import all the time.

So far, copying from AE_1 and pasting into AE_2 creates a 'placeholder' layer in my project panel and it displays as missing footage. If anyone has any insight into how to get the copy/paste working between 2 open instances of AE I would be very interested to hear how you did it. Thanks!

No, you can't. The only layers that don't appear as placeholders are the text and shape layers. What you can do is to import one project into another project and copy/paste those layers .

Ok shoot.. Well, luckily I did just find a script from AE scripts called Clipboard 2 that so far, in my very limited usage, seems to be doing exactly what I want!
So far I have been able to copy layers from AE_1 straight into AE_2! So cool!
