Can I use Beta as my main production app?

As in, can I have the beta version use the workspace and preferences from the main version of AE? So all workspaces, plugins, preferences stay the same across both?

    Hi there,

    Thanks for writing in.

    1. Workspaces are stored in XML files located in the preferences folder. You can move these workspaces from the main version to the beta version, but ensure that you consider any caveats regarding monitor size and layout.

      • For Windows:

        • Path: [drive]:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\[version]\ModifiedWorkspaces

      • For macOS:

        • Path: [drive]/Users/[user_name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/[version]/ModifiedWorkspaces

    2. Generally, plugins should work between different versions of After Effects, including beta versions. However, it’s advisable to verify compatibility with specific plugins, as some may have version-specific requirements.

    3. Preferences are also stored in the same folder structure as workspaces. You can transfer preferences between versions, but it's essential to check for any version-specific settings that may not apply to the beta.

Check out the following article to know a different approch: https://adobe.ly/4t2iS28

Note: You can use the Beta alongside your main AE install, but it’s generally not recommended to rely on it as your primary production app. Beta builds are pre-release versions and may include bugs, missing features, or unexpected behavior that can affect your work.

    Thanks,

    Nishu
