Question

Can somebody help me with the right colorprofile export for Adobe After Effects?

When I export my project the color becomes a lot lighter. Mainly the text, but you can also see it in the picture.

I’m using the general profile sRGB IEC61966-2.1 I tried to export my project with (same as project) and selecting the same profile in the export settings. Both become dull. Is there a setting I’m missing?

I tried different screens/displays as well but its in the file. See screenshot.

The right one is the correct color, that is the after effects file. And the left is my export (mp4). It happens in mp4 as well as mov. I would like a mp4 but if i can get it right in mov I’m already helped a lot.

Hi MariaLouise, thanks for writing in.

    A few things to try:

    1. In the Render Queue, click your Output Module > Color Management tab. Make sure the Output Profile is set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (matching your working space), and that "Preserve RGB" is OFF.
    2. Go to File > Project Settings > Color and set Working Color Space to "None" temporarily. Re-export and see if the color matches. If yes, the issue is in the color transform being applied; if no, the issue is elsewhere.
    3. Test the export in different players. Do all of them show the washed-out colors, or only some? Different players handle embedded color profiles differently. If only some players show the issue, it's a player-side color interpretation problem.

A couple of questions if those don't resolve it:

    • Are you on macOS or Windows?
    • Which player are you using to view the exported file?
    • Your exact After Effects version.

Let me know what you find!

    Thanks,

    Nishu

Would you check the project setting in After Effects?

File menu > Project Settings > Color tab > Working color space
